The kick-off meeting for the preparation of IIW 2020 research progress was held on the morning of June 4. Attending the meeting were: Zhang Yanmin, executive vice president of China Society of mechanical engineering, Professor Feng Jicai, chairman of welding branch, Professor Feng Jicai of Harbin Institute of technology, vice president of welding branch and Professor Li Xiaoyan of Beijing University of technology, Feng Chunsheng, vice president of higher education branch of China Machine Press, experts in editing and reviewing IIW research progress in 2019 and 2020, and other relevant experts and scholars People. Vice chairman Li Xiaoyan presided over the meeting. Chairman Feng Jicai addressed the meeting. Zhang Yanmin, executive vice president of China Society of mechanical engineering, made a report entitled "facing the new era, new achievements of welding branch", which introduced the work of think tank, academic and popular science fields of CSME. He highly affirmed the compilation of IIW research progress, and put forward new requirements for the follow-up work of IIW research progress compilation and promotion. At the meeting, the editorial board of the International Welding Society (IIW) 2020 research progress was established, which was edited by Professor Li Xiaoyan. The editorial and review expert committee was composed of nearly 40 well-known welding experts from 24 universities and institutes, including Tsinghua University, Tianjin University, Harbin Institute of technology, Xi'an Jiaotong University and Shanghai Jiaotong University. The contents of the bibliography cover the research progress of 18 professional fields, including additive manufacturing, surface engineering, solid phase welding, high energy beam welding, nondestructive testing and evaluation, micro nano connection, welding structure fracture, welding structure design and manufacturing, polymer material connection, brazing and so on. At the meeting, Feng Chunsheng, vice president of higher education branch of Mechanical Industry Press, introduced the requirements for manuscript compilation from the perspective of publishing. Deputy Secretary General Huang Caiyan gave a report on how to participate in the iiw2020 annual meeting and how to obtain conference materials. Focusing on how to compile iiw2020 research progress, experts and scholars of IIW research progress in the past, new experts, young welding scholars and readers of research progress have carried out heated discussions from different angles, and put forward many positive suggestions. Due to the epidemic situation this year, IIW 2020 meeting will be changed to an online meeting, which will be held from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Beijing time from July 15 to 25. IIW commissioned to design the web conference terminal of virtual reality conference, and has opened the conference registration system. According to the task of compiling each chapter of iiw2020 research progress, some editorial experts were appointed as representatives (or experts) of welding society to attend the meetings and activities of IIW related professional committees. With the support of China Society of mechanical engineering, the welding branch listed the compilation of "IIW research progress" as a key special work in 2016, and started to implement it since 2017. At present, the compilation of IIW research progress in 2017, 2018 and 2019 has been completed, and the research progress of IIW 2019 has been published by China Machinery Industry Press. "Iiw2020 research progress" will still be published by China Machinery Industry Press. The new book is planned to meet with readers at the end of 2020. It is believed that more welding technicians will benefit from it.
